This game was developed for the newbie game jam, more about that below!

Last note: Ran out of time for more level creation, I've learned a bit about time management and overall game development! Started to grow tired towards the end but I'm still pretty happy with the end result :)

Platform and.. puzzle? your way through x levels! Previous deaths* leave new platforms that can be used for a slight boost, or, with the help of strange unidentified fluids, even a big boing or a slimy climb!

*No skeleton actually dies, their bones go to a secret skelly hideout. Once the skull is teleported back (try resetting from checkpoint ingame!), their buddies reassemble their bodies for them :)

Features:

  • Spontaneous combustion!
  • Cute skellies!
  • Douse yourself in unidentified fluids with inexplicable physical properties!
  • Portals!
  • More cute skellies!

QnA:

Q: Was this a game jam game?

A: You know it! (it was the very first sentence of this games description and in bold.) This was developed as part of the 14-day Newbie Game Jam 2022-2. This is where the game idea originated from, as the prompt of the jam was DEATH = PROGRESS.

I technically cheated since the skellies don't die from a lore perspective (a.k.a they are lovely and I wouldn't want to hurt them one bit) however the mechanics are close enough to a standard video game death.... that counts, right?

Oh, and this also prompted the SLSO8 colour palette used as it was an optional restriction! (Once again, cheated with the palette slightly with the liquids... but imagine how hard it would be to tell which one was which!!)

Q: Will this game be updated?

A: I've loved making it so far, I don't see why I should suddenly stop once it's been released!! we'll see :))

Q: What about the skeletons that 'die' in different ways??? (lava etc)

A: They always find a way to get their bones back! Skellies are immune to lava, they just kinda sink...

The semi-serious part at the bottom of the page:

This is my second publically released game and my first game jam submission. It's been a blast! The jam time limit and community encouragement motivated me throughout the development process, which, in my opinion, resulted in a pretty damn good game for someone who’s only been developing games for a few months under a year from the start of the jam!

Huge thanks to Kosmotion for hosting the newbie game jam and helping introduce me to jamming, an event that I was somewhat anxious about joining! If you are considering doing your first or another jam yourself and have the time for it, go for it! :)
